The Ontario Fire Academy is registered as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005, by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. Our course is recognized by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM). We offer a full-time course, as well as a part-time course for the OFA’s National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level I – II Firefighter PT Training

Full-time course 

A comprehensive twelve-week program with 12 weeks including training at our facility. The 12 weeks prepare our students for their testing to receive their IFSAC seals. We teach all of the skills and knowledge required and IFSAC testing. During their stay at our facility, students will live the life of a firefighter. They will eat together, sleep in a dormitory setting, be responsible for station duties, and be on call to respond to mock emergency calls, all while gaining their education in firefighting.

Part-time course 

Blended format program – Our online platform has been developed utilizing a blended learning strategy that incorporates a variety of learning tools and aids to assist students in successfully completing the theoretical portion of the program. Once all individual elements have been successfully completed the learner can proceed to the next program module.

Upon successful completion of all academic program elements, students qualify to attend the Ontario Fire Academy to complete a mandatory, 120 hours, intensive practical training and testing program. An e-book is provided for this program. This book will be utilized throughout the program including the practical phase of training.

Student Requirements:

For both Full-time and Part-time Courses

  • Grade 12 diploma or better
  • Standard first aid with level C CPR
  • Completed medical form (supplied) in order to attend our program.
