The OFA’s National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level I – II Firefighter PT Training – blended format program is approved as a vocational program under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005, by the Ministry of Adult Education and Skills Development. Our course is recognized by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM).
Our online platform has been developed utilizing a blended learning strategy that incorporates a variety of learning tools and aids to assist students in successfully completing the theoretical portion of the program. These required elements ensure students understand the learning objectives of each module, which is validated by end of module evaluations. Once all individual elements have been successfully completed the learner can proceed to the next program module.
Upon successful completion of all academic program elements, students qualify to attend Ontario Fire Academy to complete a mandatory, 120 hours, intensive practical training and testing program. This practical portion challenges individuals to demonstrate their acquired knowledge through hands-on practice. Aided by live demonstration from one of our qualified Instructors, students will learn all the skills necessary to challenge the OFMEM proctored IFSAC written and skill examinations. The OFA optimizes the learning environment by maintaining a five -to-one student instructor ratio during all practical evolutions and restricts the number of students to a maximum of fifteen per session.
Students will use the IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting 6th edition with Fire Department Operations, an e-book is provided for this program. This book will be utilized throughout the program including the practical phase of training. All the personal protective equipment needed during the practical portion of the program is supplied at no additional cost.
