First of all...

Welcome to the Ontario Fire Academy! We’re excited to have you join our aspiring firefighters and first responders community. This is a big milestone, and we’re glad you chose the Ontario Fire Academy as your starting point.

As a new student, you may have many questions about what to expect during your time here. The next few months will be a challenging, but rewarding experience, and we want to ensure your transition to the academy is as smooth as possible. Your success is our first priority. To help you get oriented, we’ve put together some important information to get you started.

To get started

First, let’s talk about the schedule. For Full-Time cohorts, classes at the academy typically run Monday through Friday. You’ll have a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on training. It’s important to be punctual and attend all classes, as absenteeism can affect your ability to complete the program.

Your start date and schedule will vary depending on your cohort date and if you’re a Full-Time or Blended student. Full-Time students will be attending class fully on campus with a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on, practical training. Blended students will start the program with online modules for the first 13 weeks then come on campus for practical training for the last 3 weeks. You will receive a detailed schedule at the start of your program, and our instructors will be available to answer any questions you may have.

DRESS CODE

Next, let’s talk about the dress code. You’ll be required to wear a uniform for all classes and training sessions. This includes a firefighting suit, boots, and other protective gear. You’ll also need to maintain a professional appearance, with a clean-shaven face and short hair. We will provide recruits with part of the Ontario Fire Academy uniform that must be worn when you are present on campus.

It’s also important to note that the training at the academy can be physically and mentally demanding. You’ll need to be in good physical shape to complete the program.

Finally, it’s important to remember that the Ontario Fire Academy is a community of learners. You’ll be working alongside your classmates to learn and grow together. We encourage you to be supportive of one another, and to take advantage of the many resources available to help you succeed.

We look forward to working with you and seeing you succeed!

TIPS FOR BLENDED PROGRAM RECRUITS

If you are a Blended student about to train with us, make sure you complete all the online modules prior to your practical training. You will have 13 weeks to finish the content and it can be done at your own pace within those 13 weeks.
